MANHATTAN, KS — The public can attend a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the installation of a new Visitors Pavilion at the Konza Prairie Nature Trail on Monday, June 9, at 1:00 p.m. Visit Manhattan said that the event will take place at 100 Konza Prairie Ln at the trailhead entrance.
The new pavilion enhances the visitor experience with updated trail maps, ecological information, and history of the area. Designed to educate and inspire, the pavilion highlights the significance of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem and the important research and conservation work taking place at Konza Prairie Biological Station (KPBS).
Representatives from Kansas State University’s Division of Biology, The Nature Conservancy, and the Friends of Konza Prairie will be on hand for remarks and the ceremonial ribbon cutting. You can hike the trail following the ceremony.
“We’re thrilled to offer this new resource to the thousands of visitors who hike the Konza Prairie each year,” said Dr. John Blair, director of KPBS. “This Visitors Pavilion helps guests better understand and appreciate one of North America’s rarest and most beautiful landscapes. It also provides a window into the important research and educational programs hosted by the station.
