Geraldine R. "Gerry" Dempsay, 85, of Lawrence, Kansas formerly of Junction City, Kansas died on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. Gerry was born December 20, 1938 in North Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Elmer and Elva (Elliott) Wilson.
Survivors include three sons; Lloyd Hiatt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Floyd Hiatt and his wife Jenny of Lawrence, Kansas and Jerry Hiatt of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Shirley Ehrlich of Springfield, Oregon; three grandchildren; Michele Hiatt, Floyd Leon Hiatt, Jr. and Joey Hiatt and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Boyd Hiatt and husband Clifford Dempsay.
Gerry worked for the Geary County Sheriff Department part-time for many years. Gerry was an accomplished quilter. She received many awards for her quilts and made many quilts of valor for veterans' in the Junction City area. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Junction City.
A visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2024 at Zion United Church of Christ. A funeral will follow the visitation at Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Erik Graefe officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
