Multiple catalytic converter thefts reported over the weekend

RILEY COUNTY - Riley County Police officers took multiple reports of catalytic converter thefts over the weekend.

RCPD says catalytic converters are targeted because they contain expensive metals and are relatively easy to remove from vehicles.

On February 24th, RCPD officers filed a report for theft in the 400 block of N. 16th Street around 2:00 p.m. A 20-year-old man reported the catalytic converter on his car had been cut off and stolen. The estimate loss is $830.

Around 7:30 p.m. on February 24th, officers filed a report for theft and criminal damage in the 100 block of Manhattan Town Center. A 35-year-old man reported the catalytic converter was cut from his car and stolen. Estimated loss is $2,000.

On February 26th around 1:30 p.m. RCPD officers filed a report for theft and criminal damage to property in the 700 block of Denison Avenue. A 59-year old man reported the catalytic converter on his van was cut off and stolen. Estimated loss is $600.
