Longtime Riley County Police Sergeant Doug Wood hung up his shined, black boots for the last time on December 23.

Serving Riley County for over 25 years, Sgt. Wood was hired at RCPD in March 1996. He has served on every patrol shift during his time and even worked as a Corrections Officer for several months.

Wood leaves a lasting legacy as an instrumental piece in the development of the RCPD Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Team and was named the team leader in 2017 as a founding member. He is also one of the few officers in RCPD history to serve on the underwater recovery team as a rescue diver.

A veteran of the Navy, he will always be remembered for his thorough and comprehensive research, and passion for helping others.

RCPD is better because of you, Sgt. Wood. You will be missed!!
