Riley County Incident Report for October 18, 2021

Fraud

On October 15, an employee of Short Stop at 423 N. Main Street in Riley reported an unknown suspect claimed to be a vendor who was underpaid for a recent delivery and deceived an employee to refund the fraudulent claim. Officers filed a report for theft by deception. The total estimated loss is $830.  

Battery

On October 16 a 52-year-old female reported that a 53-year-old male suspect attempted to strangle her. Michael Sherrill, 53, of Plainfield, Ill. was arrested in connection for attempted aggravated domestic battery. Sherrill was issued a total bond of $5,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report. 

Criminal Damage

On October 16, an employee of Far Out Arcade at 1108 Laramie Street in Manhattan reported a 31-year-old male suspect punched out the front window of the business. Around 12:03 a.m. Robert Gibbons, 31, of Manhattan was transported to Via Christi for treatment of hand lacerations and issued a notice to appear for criminal damage to property. The estimated loss is approximately $500. 

Burglary

On October 16, a 41-year-old male reported that someone entered his unlocked detached garage in the 2100 block of Sloan Street in Manhattan and stole miscellaneous tools. The estimated loss is $2250.  

Burglary

On October 16, a 37-year-old female in the 700 block of Allen Road in Manhattan reported an someone had entered her unlocked shed and stole a Yard Machine push mower, two dorm-style refrigerators, a window air conditioner, a floor jack and a clock. The loss is approximately $820. 

Theft

On October 16, a 48-year-old reported someone stole his gray Mongoose mountain bicycle, white Genesis mountain bicycle, gray Trek mountain bicycle and black Kent mountain bicycle. The toal estimated loss is $500.  

Domestic

On October 16, a 21-year-old female and a 24-year-old male reported an altercation with a 24-year-old male suspect and a 21-year-old female suspect. Officers filed a report for aggravated assault, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated child endangerment around 8:49 p.m. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. 

Unattended Death

On October 17, officers responded to a medical call in the 2400 block of Stagg Hill Road in Manhattan. When officers arrived on scene, they found a deceased 79-year-old female. No foul play is suspected at this time. 

Criminal Damage

On October 17, a 66-year-old female reported someone threw a pumpkin and beer bottle at her house in the 1500 block of Leavenworth Street in Manhattan, breaking a window. The total estimated loss is $750. 

Aggravated Battery

On October 17, a 19-year-old male in the 700 block of Ratone Street in Manhattan reported that a 69-year-old male suspect injured him. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Theft

On October 17 a 20-year-old female reported asomeone stole her Macbook Pro, Michael Kors purse, and cash from her car in the 600 block of Bluemont Avenue in Manhattan. The total loss is approximately $660.

Arson

At around 11:38 p.m. on October 17, an unknown male suspect lit a tequila bottle full of gas and sugar on fire outside of the Riley County Police Department Aggieville Substation. Officers filed a report for criminal use of explosives and arson. The estimated loss is $100.
