THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ANNOUNCED THAT A FREEZE WARNING WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM TUESDAY EVENING UNTIL 10 AM WEDNESDAY.

Freezing temperatures in the middle and upper 20s are anticipated throughout central, east central, north central and northeast Kansas, including the Manhattan - Junction City - Wamego area.

Freezing conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps today to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
