Grant funding totaling $918,132 has recently been awarded to the Flint Hills Regional Council. The Office of Economic Adjustment awarded $518,246 to assist in protecting and preserving Fort Riley. The Council also received EDA Cares Act Funding totaling $399,886.

OEA funding will be used to support projects including development of a military installation resiliency plan, wind turbine legislation  for military installations, unmanned aircraft system corridor study implementation, Junction City housing conditions assessment, Green Valley Transportation study plus other outreach and educational efforts. This is an 18-month award.

The EDA Cares Act money can assist with regional economic recovery and resiliency efforts over the next two years. They will range from development of a regional economic recovery and resiliency plan to partnering with entities to provide business recovery training and guidance.

The Council is seeking the public's help to obtain match funding to help meet basic operational expenses. The use of grant funding is significantly restricted and unrestricted funding is required to meet basic operational expenses.

This year  the Council will be participating in both the Wamego Community Foundation Match Day on Oct. 8 and the Geary Community Match Day on Oct. 13 in an effort to enhance their ability to use donations for match dollars. That will stretch their local funds further and increase the ability to bring in additional grant funding to the region.
