Manhattan City release

The Manhattan City Commission will hold a pair of public hearings on the 2025 budget during a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 3 in the City Commission Room at City Hall, 1101 Poyntz Ave.

Commissioners have already approved publication of a budget totaling $229,659,263 in the newspaper. This would yield a maximum proposed estimated tax rate of 52.924 mills, which would be an increase of about 4 mills from the current 2024 rate.

An estimated 29.732 mills of the 52.924 mills go to the Riley County Police Department, while another 4.253 mills go to the Manhattan Public Library. The City’s General Fund would be capped at 11.842 mills.

A public hearing for the Revenue Neutral Rate and one for the budget are both scheduled for the Sept. 3 meeting. Citizens will have an opportunity to weigh in on the proposed budget during both hearings. This budget is not finalized — commissioners can still reduce these levels, but they cannot exceed them.
