RILEY COUNTY - NO burning is permitted in Riley County on Saturday, April 6th, 2024.
Windy conditions are creating EXTREME fire danger in Riley County and surrounding counties.
Riley County Fire District #1 and Riley County Emergency Management are asking landowners, farmers, ranchers and anyone who has recently burned to recheck those areas for rekindling fires.
As of 2:00 pm, RCFD #1 crews were fighting a rekindled fire on Silver Creek Road, and had also fought a fire north of Randolph, which had blown across from Pottawatomie County.
The strong winds can cause embers in the previous burn sites to reignite, and the high winds could cause the fire to quickly get out of control.
