David Burke Bayer from Manhattan, KS passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the age of 74, following a short illness. He was born on November 15, 1949 to Burke and Margery (Campbell) Bayer and attended public schools where he graduated from Manhattan High School in 1968.
After graduation David entered the military service. He proudly served our nation during Vietnam Conflict from 1969-1970 where he received the commendation of the Purple Heart. Following his military service, he channeled his enjoyment of the outdoors into a career as a self-employed roofing contractor. His career then transitioned to employment with Bayer Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. Following his retirement, he continued his love of construction by purchasing a Caterpillar skid loader to provide assistance to friends and family with their construction needs.
David was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic person in many personal pursuits. He enjoyed his kids and grandkids and shared many memorable experiences at Lake Elbo, boating, skiing and creating exciting fireworks displays. He also enjoyed gardening and had a passion for riding his bicycle and challenging his distance and endurance.

David is survived by his son Jason Bayer, daughter Christy Graessle, and daughter-in-law Jackie Bayer, his grandchildren Britney Grijalva, husband Kobe Grijalva, Bradley Bayer, Kiernan Graessle and Matt McCaleb. He is also survived by his mother Margery Bayer, sisters Dana Bayer and Becky Tadtman and seven nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Burke Bayer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 10, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz, Manhattan, KS. Visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. followed by services at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am in Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan, KS.
