Geraldine “Gerrie” Baker Swords, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022 surrounded by family.

Known for her artistic flair, passion for cooking and hosting festive gatherings Gerrie put her talents to use for many community organizations and fundraisers such as The Lyric Opera Ball, Symphony Ball, Epilepsy Foundation, the Westport Ballet Ball and was a supporter of the American Royal. She will be remembered for leaving a legacy of generosity and hospitality.

Gerrie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Maurice Jerome “Jerry” Swords. She and Jerry were long-time members of the Saddle & Sirloin Club, Carriage Club and Kansas City Club. They were members of Visitation Catholic Church and St. Agnes Parish.

She is survived by her five children. Jim Swords and wife Kris of Beverly, MA, Margaret Swords of Leawood, KS, Martha Swords Birkins and husband Bill of St. Petersburg, FL, Melissa Swords Boyer and husband Bryan of Litchfield, CT, and Michael Swords of Prairie Village, KS. She also has two grandsons Cameron Boyer of Charlotte, NC, and Conner Boyer, of Indianapolis, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (July 3, 2023) at 2:00 p.m. at St. Bernards Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Peterson officiating.

Gerrie and Jerry will be inurned together at St. Bernards Cemetery in Wamego. Military Honors for Mr. Swords will be performed at the graveside by the U. S. Marine Corps Funeral Honors Detail and the Wamego American Legion Post No. 172.
