Jack Akin, age 88, of Manhattan, died Friday July 15, 2022 at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
He was born in Deepwater, MO August 9, 1933 to John Howard and Elsie (Weik) Akin. Jack attended Zeandale Grade School, Manhattan High and graduated from St George High in 1953. He attended Purdue Technical School for one year.
On July 19, 1958 he married Mary Hecker in Wamego and moved to Topeka. He was employed by Western Foundry & Machine Works and Topeka Metal Specialties. In July 1976, he built a house near Zeandale and took over the Akin family farm.
His grandparents were Delmar and Maude Akin.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Hecker Akin; son, Tony Akin (Donna) and his daughters, Margo Holden, Tami (Jerry) Bumgarner; and also, his six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Jack will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 30, 2022 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Zeandale.
The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is assisting the family with the service arrangements.
