In the 2026 general election on Tuesday Manhattan voters will be asked to consider a proposed half-cent (0.5%) street maintenance sales tax.
If approved, the tax could only be used to fund street infrastructure maintenance in the City of Manhattan. It would take effect in 2027 after the current 0.2% street maintenance sales tax expires. For the first five years of the new sales tax, the city has identified 75% of the funding will go toward rehabilitation of existing neighborhood roads. Priorities will be evaluated on a year-by-year basis after that.
