Irene (Keating) Leiszler

Irene (Keating) Leiszler, 91, of Garden Plain, Kansas, passed away on December 4, 2021 after a short illness .

Irene was born on February 21, 1930 to James H. and Mary E. (Myers) Keating in Marysville, Kansas. After graduating from Haddam High School, Haddam, Kansas in 1947, she went on to study at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas.

Following her education, she worked as a teacher at Spence School, Kimeo, KS for one year.   She then worked in Kansas City, Kansas; Lincoln, Nebraska and  in Marysville, Kansas.

In 1954, she married Leonard C. Leiszler at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Clara, Kansas.  They lived and farmed in the Strawberry, KS area for over 40 years and had seven children: Rosanne (David) Rutkowski of Broken Arrow, OK; James (Therese) Leiszler of Clifton, KS; Michael (Karen) Leiszler of Clyde, KS; Annemarie (Walter) Beckman of St. Louis, MO; Carmelita (Michael) Stockemer of Garden Plain, KS; John (Barb) Leiszler of Clifton, KS and Chris (Kim) Leiszler of Goodyear, AZ.  

She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard, daughter Annemarie and both parents.  She is survived by her remaining six children, twelve grandchildren: Matthew Rutkowski, Ryan Rutkowski, Zachary Leiszler, Alexandra (Beckman) Rose, Lucas Beckman, Shaughnessy (Stockemer) Zimmerman, Georgeanna Stockemer, David Leiszler, Mark Leiszler, Teresa Leiszler, Lori Leiszler, Jacob Leiszler; six great-grandchildren: Mabel, Edward and Matilda Rose, Theodore Rutkowski, Henry Zimmerman and Eleanor Leiszler.  Also surviving are her three brothers: Bernard (Dee) Keating of Cedar Rapids, IA; James (Margaret) Keating of Faribault, MN and Pat (Mary) Keating Minneapolis, MN.

Irene was a faithful Catholic and was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Clara, KS; St. Mary of the Assumption, Clifton, KS and St. Anthony of Padua, Garden Plain, KS.  She served as a director and taught religious education for St. Mary, Clifton and was a member of the Altar Society at St Anthony, Garden Plain.

A Rosary will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption, Clifton, KS, Sunday, December 12th at 5:30 p.m.  There will be a visitation the same day beginning at 3:30 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 13th at St Mary, Clifton at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church and can be sent c/o the funeral home.
