RILEY COUNTY— Officers safely apprehended an armed man at Walmart in Manhattan after a vehicle chase Monday morning, according to a media release from the Riley County Police Department.
Just before 4:30 a.m., a driver committing multiple traffic offenses led Riley County Police Department officers on a pursuit. The vehicle was later located, but the driver, later identified as Gerry Wayne Phillips II, was not on the scene.
Around 9:10 a.m., Phillips II was located in the 100 block of East Bluemont Street in Manhattan at Walmart.
He was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with officer demands causing a struggle.
Ultimately officers were able to safely apprehend Phillips II and arrest him on requested charges of of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and felony interfering with law enforcement.
Phillips II was transported to the Pottawatomie County Jail.
