Gary Robert Nuzum

Gary Robert Nuzum, age 71, a longtime Garden City resident, died January 7, 2022, in Manhattan while visiting family.

He was born June 22, 1950, in Mapleton, Kansas, the son of Aldon J. and Mary R. (Canaday) Nuzum.

Gary graduated from Garden City High School in 1968. He later earned his Associates degree from Garden City Community College and was proud to be able to walk across the stage with his oldest daughter to receive their diplomas together.

He worked for Lewis Motors in Garden City for many years in the parts department in various capacities.

Gary was the biggest family man. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He loved his wife so immensely and together they created a beautiful and exciting life. Gary had many hobbies to include reading, cooking Sunday breakfast for his family, playing and later coaching softball, camping and spending weekends around the fire with friends. You could rarely catch Gary without a smile and a quick-witted one liner, his sarcastic humor is what he was known for. He was the biggest Chiefs fan and was proud to say that he had seen every Chiefs game since before they were the “Chiefs”. Gary loved to watch any and all sports and was a fan of the Big XII, even the Wildcats.

On May 24, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he was married to Carol LaJean Galliart. Carol survives of their home in Halstead. Additional survivors include their six children: Brad Nuzum (Jana), Matt Nuzum (Lori), Jason Moreno, Alex Nuzum, Tori Berard (Josh), and Ashley Nuzum (Marcus); five siblings: Cecil Nuzum, George Nuzum (Barbara), Jim Nuzum (Lori), Darrell Nuzum and Deb Tomlin (Tim); eight grandchildren: Lauren, Michael, Chase, Derek, David, Payton, Amiyah and Zoleigh; and three great-grandchildren: Jayden, Christopher and Daniel.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Sybil Standley; and one grandson Jakobe Robert Berard.

A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m.,  Saturday, January 15th 2022 at the Eagles Lodge, 2603 N Taylor Ave, Garden City, KS.
