Maria G. Gutierrez 79, of Manhattan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 6, 2023 at a Manhattan nursing home.

She was born September 2, 1944 Corpus Christi Texas, the daughter of Nestora (Mireles) Garza and father Abelino Garza.

She retired at Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia after working there for 35 years. She worked part-time at Kramer in Manhattan for 9 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, dancing, shopping, crocheting items and giving them to her friends and loved ones, tending to her plants and flowers. And she loved watching or listening to anything about Bigfoot! She loved having long talks on the phone sharing laughter and giving advice through the hard times. She was always someone you could count on and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Survivors include her son, Danny Gonzales of Newton, grandchildren, Leticia Daniela of Wichita , Erica Gonzales of Lawrence; son, Steve Gonzales of Wichita, grandchildren, Carlos Salvatiera, Vivi Salvatiera, Jasmin Gonzales and Gabby Gonzales all of Wichita; daughter Sylvia Hudson of Manhattan, grandchildren Amie Santana Hudson of Fort Cambell, Ky, Cindy Hudson of Aurora Co, Jessica Hudson of Manhattan; son Jarvier Gonzales of Wichita, grandchildren Daniele Letterman of Salina, Cheyenne Alix of Wakefield, Megan Letourneau of Salina, Alica Letourneau of Salina, Peter Gonzales of Minnesota; son Peter Gonzales (deceased); daughter Karen Gutierrez of Topeka grandchildren, DeJuan Gutierrez of Topeka; son Jesse Gutierrez of Wichita, grandchildren Demi Cross of Olathe, Vanessa Gutierrez of Tucson Az, Dominic Gutierrez of Tucson Az, Isabella Ossandon of Emporia and Isiah Ossandon of Emporia; also her 25 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday October 12, 2023 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with Deacon Larry Erpelding officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502 is assisting the family with the service arrangements.
