Work begins on temporary crosswalk signal

Manhattan City officials said that work began this week to install a new temporary crosswalk signal at the intersection of 14th Street and Poyntz Avenue, at the southwest corner of City Park. This includes the signal, new pavement markings and additional signage. Weather pending, it is expected to begin operation Thursday, July 10.

Once it does, the intersection will shift from its current 4-way stop configuration and Poyntz Avenue will have unrestricted east-west travel, except when the signal is triggered by a crossing pedestrian. This will signal Poyntz traffic to stop first.

Stop signs will remain on 14th Street and north-south traffic must yield to oncoming Poyntz traffic, only entering the intersection when there is no oncoming east-west traffic.
