Ruby E. Winters passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 in Abilene at the age of 95. She was born June 12, 1929 in Council Grove, Kansas the daughter of William and Maggie (Davis) Miller.Ruby enjoyed sewing and quilting, and made her granddaughters wedding dresses. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family and reading her bible.On October 19, 1949 Ruby was united in marriage to Floyd “Bud” Winters in Abilene. Ruby was a beautician for many years in Abilene owning the Hair Shack and along with Floyd were custodians of Emmanuel Church. Following Floyd’s death, Ruby began fostering children. Something she enjoyed doing until well into her 80’s. She always made sure the foster children attended church and Sunday School with her. She felt this was a good base and that these children needed to know God and be exposed to Christian beliefs.
Survivors include her sons Guy Winters and his wife Ann of Abilene, Mark Winters and his wife Teena of Lakeland, Florida, nine grandchildren Shelly (Matt ) Picking, Becky Ryan, Sara (Austin)McAvoy, Kodee (Amanda) Winters, Kadee (Chad) Free, Balee, Rilee Winters, Mandi (Chris) Ridenour, Penny Foster, eighteen great grandchildren, and brother Marvin Miller. Along with her husband Bud preceding her in death on March 13, 2007, Ruby is preceded in death by her Daughter Susan Mosiman, grandson Guy Winters, Jr, great grandson Sterling McAvoy and sister Beatrice, Wilma, and brothers John, Kenneth, Clayton, and Vernon.
Funeral services for Ruby will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene with Pastor Gordon McClure officiating. Her final resting place will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the funeral home.
