RILEY COUNTY– A 9:22 p.m. Thursday, Riley County Jail corrections officers discovered an unresponsive inmate, according to a media release from Riley County Public Information Officer Joshua Kinder.
Riley County EMS was alerted and arrived on the scene at 9:29 p.m. Despite life-saving measures, inmate Michael Lee Stanfield, 60, of Manhattan, was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m.
There does not appear to be any criminal acts that occurred in the death. Stanfield’s next of kin has been notified.In accordance with RCPD policy and state statute, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) was notified and responded to investigate. The KBI investigates all deaths that occur in Kansas prisons and jails unless the inmate who died was being regularly seen by a physician, or the death is ruled natural by autopsy
