MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Riley County Police Department conducted a Click IT or Ticket campaign from May 21-21 in an effort to aggressively enforce occupant restraint, texting, impaired driving, and other traffic laws.
During the campaign, the officers conducted 173 vehicle stops, yielding the following results:
- 155 safety belt citations
- 2 texting while driving citations
- 1 child restraint citation
- 0 speeding citations
- 11 other citations and arrests, including 1 DUI arrest
This Click It or Ticket campaign was supported by a grant with the Kansas Department of Transportation. Kansas' overall adult seat belt compliance rate is 85% and ranges, by county. from 62% to 97%.
Almost two-thirds of Kansas' fatality crashes occur on rural roadways while these roads account for only one-third of all crashes.
