Manhattan Public Works will be closing 3rd Street from Poyntz Ave north past the alley to the entrance of the public parking lot just south of Humboldt Street.
According to the City the closure will begin at 6:30 AM Wednesday morning and the repairs are expected to take two weeks. The crews have discovered a series of voids underneath the pavement specifically located at the alley and north to the entrance (the purple area identified on the map). The number of concrete panels that will need to be removed is unknown at this time. Crews will not know the extent of the damage until they can begin digging and determine the size of the voids under 3rd Street.
The goal is to complete the work as quickly as possible, and especially before school starts in August. The alley will remain open through the public parking lot from East to the West. The green arrow shows the approximate path delivery trucks and solid waste haulers can use for access.
