RILEY COUNTY - The Riley County Board of County Commissioners declared a local disaster emergency for Riley County on Monday afternoon.
This declaration activated disaster plans to fight fires along Deep Creek Road, due to the fires threatening more than 16 homes and having the potential to cause wide-spread damage.
"The disaster declaration gives us the best opportunity to fight this fire and the best tools to keep everyone safe. I'm very appreciative of the people out fighting this fire and glad we're getting it under control," said Commission Vice-Chair John Ford.
