Elizabeth Louise Wischer, 28, fell asleep in Christ and went to the heavenly realm on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, from her home near Longford, Kansas, with her animals, friends, and family close by. The sky was blue that afternoon, the sun was shining, and a large Christmas tree that had been decorated by her friends sparkled outside the big picture window next to where she lay. Other Christmas lights and decorations brightened the room inside, and her mom and brothers held her close. Elizabeth loved celebrating the birth of Jesus, and she slipped into sleep to the sound of Christmas carols all around her.
She was born to Jeff and Lori Wischer on October 13, 1994. She grew up caring for her animals, braiding and styling her thick, long, golden-blond hair, creating artwork, teasing her two big brothers, and eagerly helping with the family farm. As an adult she continued all of these passions and also grew to especially love riding horses, driving and working on square-body pickups, creating photography, writing books and devotions, woodworking in her shop, collecting pocket knives, reading her Bible, and, most of all, spending time with her brothers in whatever way possible. There was no end to Elizabeth’s interests and passions, as long as she was doing them with those whom she loved.She worked at the Coachlight Restaurant in Longford for over 10 years, where she loved bantering with all of her farmer and community friends, forming heart ties with her dear coworkers, and enjoying Birthday Pie with her Birthday Twin, Byron. She also worked as a receptionist at Dr. Hogan’s clinic in Salina, where she enjoyed special friendships with her coworkers, and for Curtis McKale as a helper during harvest and calving seasons, where, dressed in thick coveralls in the middle of the night, she saw her first calf be born.
Nothing filled her with more joy, however, than her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was deeply active in her church with a fervent heart, singing in the choir, helping with VBS, serving as the YWR for the LWML Kansas District, volunteering with the church’s fireworks stand, and occasionally driving church friends to run errands. She also went on several church youth trips to help with disaster recovery efforts.
On March 24, 2022, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia that began an 18-month-long battle with the illness. Her church and community friends stood steadfastly beside her through the whole journey, supporting and encouraging her spiritually, financially, and emotionally, and for that she was filled with the deepest gratitude and love. God also faithfully held onto her through it all, always causing her to believe that a special miracle was coming, and thereby giving her an unfailing joy that shined on all of those around her. In the end she got her miracle—the greatest miracle of all. The Lord gave her the crown of life and brought her home to Himself, out from this veil of tears, to live with Him in Paradise in eternal peace and joy.
She is survived by her parents; her brothers, Max Wischer and Zeke Wischer; her father-in-life, Curtis McKale; her sister-in-life, Amy Wayman; her honorary brother, Seth Stout; her sister-friend from infancy, Bethany Laude; and a multitude of additional dearest friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas, 67410. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1600 N. Buckeye Ave., Abilene, Kansas, 67410, with graveside committal to follow at the Keystone Cemetery. Afterwards, there will be a luncheon back at the church in Abilene.
Elizabeth requested that memorials be given to Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene, Kansas or to the LWML Kansas District. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas, 67410.
Goodnight, Little Love. You will be sorely missed. But we know you are happy, and we know that in the heavenly realm the angels are singing and praising God for the salvation He gave you through Jesus Christ our Lord.
