Sunset Zoo in Manhattan reopens to members Friday and to the general public on Saturday.
The Zoo will be open as an outdoor park only. All outdoor viewing areas will be open but indoor viewing areas such as the gift shop, concession stand and the Nature Exploration Center will be closed until further notice. There will be social distancing signs and markers along with signage indicating high touch areas of the park.
All areas of the Zoo plus railings and high touch areas will be cleaned multiple times per day. Staff will be practicing social distancing throughout the period.
Crowd size will be restricted to 240 people per two-hour time block of visitation. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Jared Bixby, Curator of Education, noted that the schedule will be modified as the community phases change.
Members of Friends of Sunset Zoo will be granted a three-month extension on their membership to honor their benefit of membership during the time frame the Zoo was closed to the public.
Tickets for Sunset Zoo may be purchased at the Guest Service entry gate during open hours. Hand sanitation stations will be available at the entry and exit of the Zoo as well as throughout multiple areas of the park.
