Swimming pools are expected to be open on Fort Riley this summer. Garrison Commander Col. Stephen Shrader told a Town Hall audience this week that the Army is not planning on opening pools on the installation. "Obviously we're going to continue to assess the situation as we go forward in conjunction with the state and the environment here. But right now no!"
Shrader noted that Corvias will not open their community pools in the five housing areas. "Our Custer Hill pool has got some maintenance work that we've got to do on it anyway so even if we were going to fire it up we would keep that one closed because it's got some warranty repairs that need to be executed on it."
Shrader added that Eyester Pool and Long Pool on Custer Hill will also stay closed for the forseeable future. "That's not something that we're comfortable yet based off the environment to open back up to family members and service members on the installation.
