A primary focus for USD 383 officials involves the reopening of schools for the 2020-2021 year. Superintendent Dr. Marvin Wade informed the public that the Kansas State Department of Education recently announced that guidelines would be released by July 10th. KSDE also indicated that school districts should plan for both a traditional and COVID-alternative reopening.

USD 383 is in the early stages of preparing for multiple scenarios, with options available for families within each scenario.

The district has obtained school reopening documents from other states, assessed the ability for USD 383 to implement options, and scheduled a special board meeting to discuss safety, resources, timeline and stakeholder communication.

Patrons are advised to look for a Continuous Learning / Reopening Survey within the week. The survey will ask for input about the effectiveness of the Continuous Learning Plan that was in operation from April 1 through May 13. The survey will also ask about preferences for the upcoming school year. This is the first of several surveys planned as part of the decision-making process for reopening USD 383 schools.
