K-State alum named Missouri Southern State president

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP)  — Missouri Southern State University in Joplin has chosen its new president. The university's board selected Dean Van Galen Monday to become the school's sixth president, beginning July 1.

Van Galen most recently served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He also taught and was an administrator at Truman State University in Kirksville and the University of West Florida. Van Galen earned a doctorate at Kansas State University.

His base salary will be $270,000, with other allowances. He succeeds Alan Marble, who is retiring.

Riley County positive COVID-19 case number remains unchanged

   Riley County health officials said Wednesday there have been no new positive COVID-19 cases since last Friday. Riley County’s total number of positives remains at 60. Of that total, 6 cases are active, 53 people have recovered, and 1 person has died. 

Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan has 0 positive patients and 1 Person Under Investigation (PUI) currently hospitalized. A PUI is someone who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 but is waiting for test results.
