Suspect arrested after chase, crash into Pott. Co. creek

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect following a chase and crash.

Just before 9:30p.m. Sunday, officers received report of a car traveling in a reckless manner, according to Wamego Police Chief Michael D. Baker, Sr., 

Officers located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop near 10th and Lilac.  The driver refused to stop. Officers began a pursuit that continued to St. George where the vehicle left the road and landed in a creek near Military Trail and Chapman Road, according to Baker.

Prior to the crash, Wamego police lost sight of the vehicle. A caller to the Pottawatomie County sheriff's department reported a crash into the creek near their residence.

Deputies and officers arrived to find the vehicle in the creek . The occupants of the vehicle fled before authorities arrived.

Authorities identified the suspect and one suspect was arrested with assistance of Pottawatomie County Sheriff's deputies, the Kansas Highway Patrol and St. George police, according to Baker.   There is no danger to the public as the investigation continues. Baker did not release the suspect's name or possible charges.
