The Flint Hills Regional Leadership program application period for the 2020-2021 class is open May 15 through July 16. Given the current situation during the COVID-19 pandemic there is a need for well informed, collaborative, decisive leadership.

Jack Lindquist, Executive Director, said benefits from the experience range from motivation and development of future leaders with emphasis in areas ranging from awareness of regional strengths and resources to acquisition of 21st century leadership skills. The group that is selected will also complete a class project.

Each participant will learn more about the region and meet the present and future leaders of surrounding communities.   The non-profit education program is designed to train and more fully engage leaders that live in or work in the region that includes Fort Riley, Geary, Riley and Pottawatomie counties.

Sessions are underwritten through support from hosts and a group of business leaders. Tuition covers the remaining costs.

Tuition is normally $600, payable after selection. But during the COVID-19 pandemic the board of directors has accessed an internal grant from endowment funds to reduce tuition by 50%, making it $300. For nominees and applicants from non-profit organizations, the Aileen Cray Memorial Scholarship Fund made possible by alumni dues, will provide an additional 50% scholarship.

Instructions and program details are available on the program's web site as well as the form for application. The online form must be submitted before July 17.

Following their selection the next class members will be introduced in late August. Sessions for the class are held throughout the region beginning three weeks later and extend into early 2021. They range from an orientation retreat in mid September to sessions at Kansas State University and Fort Riley plus Geary, Riley and Pottawatomie counties and one in Topeka. There will be a final celebration session in Manhattan.
