There will be a difference in this year's Grow Green Match Day in Manhattan. It will be a virtual match day benefiting 65 local charitable funds.
As part of that there will be one COVID-19 Recovery Fund with those gifts matched at 100%, said the Vice President, Marketing & Programs for the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, Elaine Dhuyvetter. "We're just trying at this point to raise the funds because we know all the nonprofits are getting hit up really hard right now with needs."
Dhuyvetter says money will be acquired for this fund and it will then be used as a grant program. "So the nonprofits who are directly serving individuals will be able to apply for funding."
For other funds gifts between $25 and $1,000 are matched at 50% up to $20,000 -- giving each fund a chance at $10,000 in match money. Usually the donations go directly to the fund endowments and the match money can be used for immediate needs, but this year the needs are so great that the process is being reversed. Donations can be used for immediate needs and the matching money will grow their endowments.
