The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce announced 47 recipients of funding from the Manhattan Business Emergency Assistance Loan Program.
The funds for this program were drawn from the City of Manhattan’s Economic Development Fund upon approval of the Manhattan City Commission, and the program is being administered by the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce. Funds can be utilized by for-profit businesses that have immediate needs to maintain business operations due to the COVID-19 disaster. The program is not meant to replace existing relief programs, but is a bridge to longer-term state, federal or private funding options.
“We are pleased to be getting these funds out as quickly as possible,” said Jason Smith, President and CEO of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce. “The funds will hopefully serve as a temporary bridge to help these businesses secure longer-term funding solutions including the SBA’s disaster program or the CARES Act Payroll Protection Plan.”
Smith credited the MACC Board of Directors and Manhattan City Commission for their quick action and forward thinking in getting the funds approved and allocated within 10 days of the program’s creation.
