WHAT...For the High Wind Warning, north winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. For the Freeze Warning, sub- freezing temperatures as low as 25 expected. *
WHERE...Republic, Washington, Marshall, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary and Morris Counties. *
WHEN...For the High Wind Warning, from 10 AM this morning to 10 PM CDT this evening. For the Freeze Warning, from 8 PM this evening to 9 AM CDT Monday. *
IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds. A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
