Riley County Health Officer Julie Gibbs said Wednesday a sixth person in the county has been diagnosed with COVID-19. "As of today Kansas has 482 positives statewide with 10 deaths and 114 hospitalizations. " Gibbs added 51 counties have been affected.

The health officer said the most recent diagnosis occurred earlier in the day on Wednesday.

Twenty-three people in Riley County are being monitored and 12 test results are still pending. So far there have been 53 negative tests.

Gibbs continued to stress the importance of staying home. "This may be uncomfortable especially when it will mean canceling travel plans, not physically being able to see someone you love or not being able to do something you've been looking forward to. But your sacrifices now could save your life or someone else's life in the future."

Gibbs noted that it will take awhile, maybe up to a year, to develop a vaccine for the virus, and everybody in Riley County is a part of the vaccine for now.
