Spring cleanup under way in Manhattan

Posted Mar 30, 2020 11:49 PM

The City of Manhattan through the Parks and Recreation Department and Public Works is conducing the spring cleanup with a modified schedule and without participation from refuse contractors.

To ensure the City can uphold Spring Cleanup procedures, alterations to extend the program's time frame have been made. Because of reduced hours at the Riley County Transfer Station and current stress load for personnel of the refuse trash - collection contractors they will not be participating in the City's traditional partnership. The City thanked the companies that participated in the past and understood the request not to participate in this year' program since resources and operations are limited to focus efforts and energy on continuing to provide quality service for customers.

City crews will assist with curbside pick-up of brush, limbs and properly bagged grass clippings or leaves from now through April 10. Citizens wanting to participate in the program are required to bring their tree limbs, branches and properly bagged ( no plastic bags ) leaves to their curb ( within one to three feet to the back of the curb ) for pick-up. If debris is unmanageable for personnel to haul or bagged in an improper manner, items will not be discarded by the city.

If you miss an opportunity to participate in the Spring Cleanup. the Riley County Transfer Station at 1881 Henton Road will remain open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and items can be brought and dropped off at that location.
