Helping Hands is the title of a new initiative to help the elderly, handicapped and / or high risk people in Geary County who do not have the available resources to retrieve essential needs during this COVID-19 time. The program will allow delivery of pharmacy items, and groceries from Dillons and Wal Mart.

David Gilbert, Sheriff's Department Captain, said for example pharmacies would have prescriptions ready for delivery. "They would call us, we would go pick up their prescriptions. If they have groceries at the grocery pick up we could pick that up, take it out to their homes, drop it off on their porches. That way it limits contact for them and it will provide them their necessities to get through this time."

Pick up times would be limited to Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For those who participate you would need to provide your name, date of birth, address and location, the medication, medical supplies or groceries that need to be retrieved. The items must be prepaid for the Sheriff's Office to retrieve them.

The Sheriff's Department is also partnering with the Geary County 4-H / Senior Center where donations have been received from many in the community as well as calls from senior citizens who have been able to get necessities for  various reasons. In this partnership the Sheriff's Office will help deliver the donations.
