Driver hospitalized in Manhattan after he falls asleep on I-70

RILEY COUNTY — One person was injured in an accident just before 1:30p.m. Wednesday in Riley County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Ford Focus driven by Carter Jerome Butler, 62, Topeka, was westbound on Interstate 70 one mile west of McDowell Creek Road.

The driver fell asleep. The vehicle traveled into the median, crossed the eastbound lane and struck the guardrail.

EMS transported Butler to the hospital in Manhattan. He was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
