Mary Ann Yahnke, 78, died November 5, 2022, in Kingman County. She was born June 8, 1944, on the Naval Base in Oakland, CA, to John William and Hazel (Richardson) Whomans.
Mary Ann graduated from Kingman High School in 1962, and Adela Hale School of Business in 1963. She worked at Farmarco as a bookkeeper and a variety of other jobs before retiring. Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, especially working in her flower beds. She was also quite creative making numerous items by hand. Mary Ann would spend countless hours crocheting, quilting, knitting, wheat weaving, and working on stained glass. She was a member of the Norwich Christian Church, where she enjoyed the ladies’ groups as well as all the fellowship and support the church provided to her.
Mary Ann is survived by: her sons, Troy Ruebke (Joni) of Manhattan and Brent Ruebke (Peggy) of Nickerson; brother, Robert Whomans (Mary Ann) of Newton; sisters, Marjorie Keezer of Newton and Joyce Lancaster (Nelson) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Faith Ruebke of Hesston, Samuel Ruebke of Medora, Chris Schrag of Wichita, Sarah Bell (Tanner) of Hutchinson, Jake Wolfe of Nickerson, Grant Steffes of Manhattan, and Jacob Steffes of Frankfort; two great-granddaughters, Leia and Ellie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul Whomans.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Norwich Christian Church, 339 Main Street, Norwich, with Pastor Eric Taylor officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Cleveland Cemetery. Friends my sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
