Carol R. Wyatt, age 76, of Manhattan, died July 23, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan.
She was born June 4, 1946, in Oakland, California, the daughter of Frauncis and Martha (Domars) Robison.
Carol earned her bachelors from UC Davis, her masters from University of Kentucky and her PhD from Washington State University. She worked as an assistant & associate professor as well as the Associate Director of WSU’s Flow Cytometry Facility at Washington State University, and for many years was a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. Following her retirement in 2013, she became professor emeritus.
Carol was a member of many professional societies while a faculty member. These include Sigma Xi, The Society of Phi Zeta as an honorary member, American Society for Microbiology, American Association of Veterinary Immunologists, Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases and the American Society of Parasitologists. She authored numerous professional papers, wrote funding grants for immunological research and was the advisor to many graduate students. Carol’s involvement in research continued post retirement as a speaker at Meadowlark Hills retirement community on vaccines and how they protect animals from disease. She served as reviewer of many manuscripts and grant proposals, and this year was nominated for the Golden Goose award. This award recognizes “silly-sounding serendipitous and surprising research that has contributed to society” with her research titled: Serendipitous discovery of “bubble-pigs” leads to a novel large animal model for biomedical research.
Carol married Stephen D. Wyatt on March 17, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlingame, CA. She is survived by her husband, Stephen, of Manhattan, Kansas. Additional survivors include her two sisters: Debbie Liggett and her husband Wade of Pleasanton, CA, and Diane Farrell and her husband Robert of Dawsonville, GA; her stepmother Rita Robison of Burlingame, CA; and four nieces and nephews: Andrew and Sarah Liggett, and Fiona Bell and Eddie Rivera.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation is planned.
