Just before 4a.m. Wednesday, the Manhattan Fire Department responded to 517 Gatlinburg Way for a report of a fire at an apartment building, according to Assistant Chief  Sam Dameron.

Crews found a three-story apartment building with nothing visible from the exterior.  Upon investigation, the sprinkler system activated in the kitchen of a first-floor apartment and extinguished the fire.  Fire crews performed a search of the apartment and safely removed a dog and cat from the apartment.

The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time of the fire.   No injuries were reported.

The building is a three-story apartment building with 24 living units. Loss is estimated at $5,000 to contents and $15,000 to the structure. The unit with the fire was the only one affected.  The owner is listed as The Links at Manhattan of Fayetteville, AR, with the resident agent listed as The Corporation Company, Inc. of Topeka, KS.
