Manhattan ( 1-2 ) outlasted a second half rally by the Junction City and rolled on to a 58-48 boys basketball victory over the Blue Jays. The Indians led by 12 in the third quarter when a flurry of steals and ensuing layups brought Junction City ( 2-1 ) back within one point in the third quarter. But Junction City never regained the lead.
Blue Jay coach Nick Perez assessed the loss. "We just did things that we don't normally do. We've got guys dribbling the ball 100 times before we passed it. We took some bad shots early and they got some runouts for layups. Perez added has to do a better job of preparing the Blue Jays.
Manhattan sophomore Cameron Carr came off the bench to lead all MHS scorers with 18 points in the win. The Blue Jays struggled to contain him. Junction City was led in scoring by Howard Johnson with 18 points. The Blue Jays hit only two three-point shots in the game.
