George Randolph "Randy" Day, 68, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Geary Community Hospital. Cremation will take place. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the organization of the donor's choice.
Randy was born July 29, 1953, in Junction City, KS the son of Robert George and Dorothy Elizabeth (Ucker) Day.
Randy graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1971. After his graduation, he worked as a service technician with Chase Electric. He also worked several other jobs in Junction City that included Coca Cola Bottling Company and several construction jobs. At the age of forty one, he enrolled at Kansas State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. He started teaching full time in 2004 at Junction City High School as welding instructor. He retired from teaching in August of 2018. While working at Junction City High School, his class built the Christmas Tree in Heritage Park.
Randy volunteered as a Boy Scout leader for seventeen years with Boy Scout Troop #61 in Junction City. Other volunteer work included many community sporting events, cooking events and many handyman jobs at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant where he and his family worshiped for many years. Randy truly had a servants heart helping others with various needs.
Randy married Virginia A. Haslam June 17, 1978 at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Junction City, KS.
Survivors include his wife Virginia of the home; two sons, Jeff Day and his girlfriend Crystal of Junction City, KS and Joey Day and his girlfriend Krystal of Junction City, KS; four brothers, Earl Day, John Day, Tom Day and Norman Day; two sisters, Penny Gullet and Barbara Day; six grandchildren, Courtney, Sawyer, Matthew, Della, Jasper and Dottie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Maggie and one brother, Karl.
