Riley County police post a safety reminder

Posted Feb 18, 2025 9:57 PM

With the recent bad weather, Riley County police say they've noticed a lot of vehicles driving without their lights on. Remember, headlights are required in the following situations:

--From sunset to sunrise.

--When conditions make people or vehicles hard to see at 1,000 feet ahead (think fog, smoke, snow, or heavy rain).

--When your windshield wipers are in continuous use due to rain, sleet, or snow.

Motorcycles (made after January 1, 1978) must have headlights and taillights on at all times while operating on any highway.

Why does this matter?Using your lights isn’t just about seeing—it’s about being seen! Proper lighting keeps everyone safer on the road, especially in poor weather conditions.
