Duane E. Slingsby

Duane E. Slingsby, 94 died March 7, 2022, in Manhattan, KS.  He was born on August 15, 1927, in Clay County, the son of Walter W. and Chattie (Gibbs) Slingsby.  Duane grew up on a farm near Green, KS.  He graduated from Green Rural High School and enlisted in the US Navy.  Duane served during WWII aboard the USS Iowa battleship.  He married Bonnie Oard on July 28, 1949.  Duane farmed before making his home in Clay Center.  He worked for Northern Natural Gas, and he owned and operated the Slingsby Insurance and Real Estate Agency.  Duane was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clay Center and the V.F.W in Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Evelyn (Slingsby) Shafer and Twila (Slingsby) White-Shivers.

Duane enjoyed life to its fullest traveling, playing golf, boating, camping, rock hunting, and fishing.   He enjoyed every moment of life alongside his family and many friends.

Duane is survived by his wife, Bonnie Slingsby of Clay Center; daughter, Deborah and husband David Abner of Manhattan; sons: Walter Slingsby and the late Carol Slingsby and Michael and wife Lori Slingsby both of Clay Center; 10 Grandchildren and 16 Great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, KS

Officiating: Rev. Reuben Langat.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation: 3-7 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.
