The Manhattan Optimist’s 23rd Annual Hoop Holler “N” Shoot free throw shooting contest for 5th grade boys and girls have completed the first round of competition. Boys and Girls Grade 5 school champions are:
The boys’ semifinals will be held at the halftime of the men’s K-State vs Omaha game on November 17. The girls’ semifinals will be held during halftime of the women’s K-State vs North Carolina A&T game on November 15.
The top four semifinalists in each division will shoot in the finals to be held at the halftime of the men’s K-State vs Albany game on December 1.
Sponsoring organizations include Manhattan Optimist Club, KS StateBank, McDonalds, Manhattan Ogden Public Schools USD 383, Kansas State Athletics, Power Hits 97.5, Q-Rock 92.7, Q-Country 103.5, and K-State Bands.
This is the first time in 22 years that only fifth graders will compete. Formerly, sixth graders competed, and the decision stems from district sixth graders transitioning from elementary to middle school.
