Doneva Joy Sparks, 83, of Junction City, Kansas died on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman, Kansas. Cremation will take place. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Kerry Ninemire officiating. A visitation will take place 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to St. Xavier Catholic School or to the Chapman Valley Manor.
Doneva was born July 17, 1940, the daughter of Lawrence Donaldson and Alpha Lenore (Harmon) Prescott.On a summer day, June 2, 1958, in a wheat field, near Alva, Oklahoma, she married Nate Sparks. The wedding was to take place in the town of Alva, Oklahoma. However, the wedding couldn't take place in Alva because the marriage license was issued in the neighboring county. So, everyone got in their vehicles and drove to the county line where the ceremony took place in a beautiful wheat field.
Doneva graduated from Larned High School with the class of 1958. After high school and getting married, she held various jobs that included working for Bell Telephone and Montgomery Wards. She spent many years raising a family and being the domestic engineer for the Sparks household. Doneva later entered the workforce and worked as a Civil Servant at Fort Riley, selling insurance for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, serving as the administrative assistant for St. Xavier Catholic Church and a support staff employee at Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home. Over the years living and working in Junction City, Kansas she belonged to St. Xavier Catholic Church, sang with the Troubadours and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also enjoyed spending time with Nate participating in the Single Action Shooting Society known as "Sand Hill Plum". Doneva enjoyed spending time with her family. She liked getting together with her entire family and loving on all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was her life!
Survivors include her husband Nate of Junction City, Kansas; two sons, Cody Sparks and his wife Luan of Derby, Kansas and Casey Sparks and his girlfriend Mindy of Junction City, Kansas; two daughters, Brenda Dacus and her husband Mark of Junction City, Kansas and Jane Bauman and her husband Jeff of Junction City, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Kaitlin, Connor, Keenan, Dalton, Paige, Abbey, Jordan, Madison and Morgan; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daryl and Don Prescott; one sister-in-law, Beverly Prescott all of Larned, Kansas.
