During the Manhattan City Commission meeting May 17, consultants from Anderson Knight Architects and aquatics specialists from Counsilman-Hunsaker provided an overview and recommendations from a recently completed indoor aquatics study for the City. This included a feasibility study outlining the expenses and revenues associated with construction and operations, along with a conceptual plan for proposed sites, locations, and general facility layouts, and an ultimate recommendation. The full report and presentation slides can be found here.
In the summer of 2021, the City Commission approved a study and appointed a 15-member community steering committee to assist. The study and steering committee recommended that the City pursue a 14-lane competition pool along with a leisure pool, with the indoor facility located adjacent to the existing CiCo Park Pool. The projected cost for the facility is approximately $28.8 million.
The City Commission directed City administration to create a process for developing funding options, which could include private fundraising along with a sales tax question for the public to consider at a later date.
