Theresa J. Almendarez, 87, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on March 27, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, surrounded by her loving family.

Theresa was born on October 14, 1936, to Francisco and Agatha (Alvarez) Castillo in Rogers, Texas and graduated from Rogers High School in 1955. Theresa married her loving husband, Martin, November 11, 1972, in Temple, Texas. They both made Temple their home for the next two years. Being a military spouse, she traveled all over the world with her family. In 1974, they were stationed in Germany for three years and in 1977, they moved back to Temple, Texas. After seven years of the family living in Temple, Texas, they received orders to move to Panama during 1984, and lived there for the next two years. In 1986, they moved from Panama to Fort Ord, California until 1992, when they moved back to Fort Riley, Kansas, finding their forever home in 1997, in Junction City, Kansas.

During her travels, she held many positions at different jobs. While living in Temple, Texas, she worked for Scott and White Hospital then for Dickies. While living in Panama and Fort Ord, she worked for the child development center on the military base. Once they finally arrived to Kansas, Theresa found her true passion as a saleswoman for Avon. Her hobbies included crocheting, watching her favorite sports teams such as: K-State, Texas Longhorns, and the Dallas Cowboys. Once her grandchildren came along, all her attention was on them.Theresa was a proud military wife and served her country honorably alongside her husband.

Theresa is survived by her loving husband, Martin Jr.; one son, Marty (Jennifer Dexter) Almendarez III; three granddaughters, Alyssa (Matt) Almendarez, Natalya Almendarez, and Torie (Jaden) Baxa; five siblings, Mary Alcozer, Pete (Delphina) Castillo, Charles (Lupe) Castillo, Steve (Josie) Castillo, and Randy (Mary) Castillo and a host of other loving family and friends.She is preceded by her parents; one sister, Juanita; two brothers, Frank and Aurelio; two nephews, Larry Hernandez and Mark Castillo and one niece, Kathi Castillo.

A visitation will take place at St. Xavier Catholic Church on Monday, April 1, 2024, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. followed by a rosary 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will start at 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. after the rosary. Graveside service will take place at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 10:00 a.m. with a funeral procession starting at the Johnson Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
