Telva Marie Swenson, age 83, a longtime Manhattan resident, died February 9, 2024, at Shawnee PARC in Overland Park, KS.
She was born June 28, 1940, in Randall, Kansas, the daughter of Virgil and Velma (Sadler) Shamburg.
Telva was the bookkeeper at Manhattan Commission Company and then was the Vault Cashier at the Kansas State Student Union.
She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was also an avid supporter of the Little Apple Barbershop Chorus and assisted with many activities of the chorus.
Telva enjoyed sewing and reading and was a wonderful cook. She loved to travel with Bob to the Barbershop Conventions and the Manhattan Masterworks Chorale events. Telva was a big supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and was the founder of the Great Strides Walk in Manhattan.
She loved her family and especially her grandchildren.
On June 23, 1963, in Manhattan, she was married to Robert R. “Bob” Swenson. Bob preceded her in death on October 31, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her son Brian Swenson in 2013; and by 10 brothers and sisters: Roberta Peters, Duane Shamburg, Lila Collette, Daniel Shamburg, Lenus Shamburg, Leslie Shamburg, Neva Maxfield, Edith Pilcher, Linda Donnelly and Ron Shamburg.
Survivors include her daughter Beth Marine and her husband Matthew; and five grandchildren: Mason Robert Swenson, Vaylnn Ann-Marie Swenson, Brianna Rose-Marie Swenson, Tucker Matthew Marine and Tyler Robert Marine.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 2nd, at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth St., Manhattan, with Reverend Jason Pittman officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Little Apple Barbershop Chorus. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
