Johanna C. Slinger, age 87 of Manhattan, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 in the Stolzer House at Meadowlark Hills.
She was born on August 25, 1935 in Amsterdam, Holland, the daughter of Fok and Johanna Knoppert.
On February 1, 1958 in Amsterdam, Holland, she was married to Andries Slinger, Jr. He preceded her in death in 2016.
Johanna was a jack of all trades, working in a variety of positions with different companies. She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed being outdoors, camping, fishing, planting or just watching the birds. She loved all animals and spending time with her grandchildren, friends, family, and all holidays or events. Most of all she loved her breakfast and morning coffee with her daughter and their times together.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Britt of Riley; four grandchildren, Keisha Strecker (Neil), Matthias Sherwood (Sarah), Jessica Walker (Christopher) and Patrick Sherwood (Devan); seven great grandchildren, Clayton and Blaise Strecker, Grant, Maci and Oliver Sherwood, Serenity and Peacelyn Walker, and Keira and Xander Sherwood; and four sisters, Alice Hoole (Rudolph), Mariann Venetz (Gregor), Ellis Knoppert, and Anja Hatch (David).
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Andre’ Knoppert and Fronce Van Putten, and brother-in-law, Jelle deBoer.
Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life to be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 9, 2022 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established for the Clay County Animal Rescue and Education Center (CCARE). Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
